Call for Posters (2019)

Connection and Disconnection whiteboard with diagrams

We are excited to announce a call for posters for our second annual Relational Summit: Learning Together.

Relational-Cultural Theory is at once instinctive and esoteric. It amplifies the basic human need for connection and highlights cultural barriers to meeting that need. RCT has expanded from a therapeutic treatment modality to a tool for everyday living in this century, touching social justice work, education, organizational systems, and environmental work, to name a few. This expanded use of RCT calls for more tools for sharing core concepts. This year we are focusing on visual explanations of core concepts.

Visual explanations can help connect key elements of RCT , like the Central Relational Paradox, remind people of relational goals, Five Good Things, and break down more complicated ideas, like disruptive empathy. Visual aids can help explain concepts across cultural barriers, generate interaction, and boost memory. Our hope is to foster deeper learning connections and conversations through RCT infographics and posters.

Throughout our Relational Summit, we will return to these visual explorations of RCT and apply them to our work on community building and relational learning. On Thursday, September 19, posters will be on display at the Bloomington Center for Connection during our open house. People of all ages and grades are welcome to submit poster ideas for consideration. Your posters should illustrate an RCT concept or application. Some ideas include:

  • Mutually Growth Fostering Relationships
  • Supported Vulnerability
  • One True Thing
  • Relational Images
  • Power-with
  • Condemned Isolation
  • Central Relational Paradox
  • Chronic Disconnection
  • Controlling Images
  • Disruptive Empathy
  • Relational Empowerment
  • Relational-Cultural Mindfulness

Many of these concepts can be found in Judith V. Jordan’s Relational-Cultural Therapy book. We would also be happy to chat with you about definitions and resources. Just fill out the form below with any questions.

Don’t forget to register for the summit!
