Parking

Free parking is available adjacent to our building for clients and guests of the BCC. There is paid parking on Morton Street, at the bottom of the hill to the East of the building. Paid parking supports us in helping provide accessible therapy.

This following information is an effort to clarify our decision to collect payment for street parking.

Why is therapy so expensive?

The BCC is committed to providing therapeutic services informed by research on trauma, social justice, neuroscience, and best practices. Our therapists spend a lot of time between sessions doing research, seeking help, completing ongoing education programs, and consulting with a supervisor. Even though you might only be in therapy for an hour, your clinician is spending time preparing for your session, contacting your insurance company, filing insurance claims, and writing notes for the insurance company that both helps you have access to therapy and maintains your dignity. On the quickest days, a one hour session requires at least 15 extra minutes for the clinician.

We are committed to making therapy accessible to our community. This means our clinicians accept public insurance such as Healthy Indiana Plan and medicaid plans. Our therapists-in training offer lower cost sessions for those without insurance. We assume people are doing their best so we do not use late fees or use collection agencies.

We believe in paying our clinicians a living wage that honors all of the work that goes into being a therapist. Our W2 employees have unlimited PTO, a cap on weekly appointments, supervision, and ongoing training in Relational Cultural Therapy. Our workplace is set up to promote healing over increasing profit. We encourage connection and support for everyone in the building. Our interns receive a stipend and offer low-cost therapy to people whose life circumstances make it hard to get help.

We believe in the power of authentic, mutually growth-fostering relationships to heal. To that end, we offer annual speakers on RCT, luncheons, our cadre program, and resources for those wanting to learn. We believe in the importance of shared power, of amplifying marginalized voices, so we host Kaleidoscope, a youth-led organization serving LGBTQIA+ and allied youth ages 12-20. We provide support and therapy to trans and gender non-conforming people from people with lived experience.

Why do you charge non-clients for parking in your overflow spots?

In order to offer these services, we asked for help from our neighbor, Griffin Realty. Together, we create alternate sources of income to support our work rather than limit our availability or burn out our therapists. Through Griffin Realty, we partnered with an established parking company to manage the lot.

In the meantime, you can park in our overflow parking lot to the east of our building and know your parking fee is supporting accessible mental health care. We still have free parking next to the offices for clients.
